Lietner System
Study Method
The Leitner System is a spaced repetition flashcard method that sorts cards into different boxes, each representing a less frequent review interval. You start with new cards in "Box 1" (daily review). Correctly answered cards move to "Box 2" (review every few days), and so on, with each successive box having longer review intervals. Incorrectly answered cards are moved back to "Box 1". This system focuses your study time on the cards you find difficult, making your learning more efficient.
How to implement?
1. Gather materials that you'll need it for
2. Start with "Box 1" and place all your new flashcards in the first box
3. Review and sort it out
- If you answer a card correctly, move it to the next box
- If you answer incorrectly, put the card back into box 1
4. Progress to later boxes
5. Continue the cycle
A common setup uses
- Box 1 : Review everyday
- Box 2 : Review every 2 days
- Box 3: Review every 4 days
- Box 4 : Review every 9 days
- Box : Review every 16 days
The main benefits of the Leitner System study method are improved long-term memory retention, efficient use of study time by focusing on challenging material, and deeper learning through active recall and spaced repetition. This structured approach helps combat the forgetting curve, minimizes repetitive study of easily remembered topics, and allows learners to track their progress and reduce study-related stress
